Special Friends

They were many of our greatest friends, just not ones who graced our exact class. You may know some well, others perhaps not at all, but to some of us they were treasured companions who've remained our friends for life. If you'd like to be included as a Special Friend, please contact our Webmaster and he'll do the rest.

Meanwhile, click on any highlighted name below to get the latest skinny on some of your special friends.

George Steitz:

Coach Steitz is a legend at Penfield High School. He landed at Normandy in June of 1944 when most of of were only 2 years old. Even in his late 90's he still attends many class reunions and picnics. It is amazing on how many people he remembers coaching over the years. In 2017 he was awarded a proclamation from Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo, who proclaimed June 17 as George Steitz Day.

In 2021, on Veterans Day November 11th, Coach Steitz along with some other veterans were honored on ABC News where Coach Steitz read letters that he had written during his service in Germany. In order to see that inteview if you missed it, click on the link below.
